In fact the original Final Fantasy in particular pulled quite a lot ideas from D&D that are still in the series. Both franchises (in fact just about everything) pull many ideas from many different sources like ancient myths, history and religions. Here is a YouTube video from Final Fantasy Union that's part of their evolve series talking about Gilgamesh. It's pretty interesting and it's just one example.
