Gun Media, the developer behind the ill-fated Friday the 13th: The Game, has announced an upcoming Nintendo Switch version. The Nintendo Switch port of Friday the 13th is slated to arrive sometime this upcoming spring.
Friday the 13th on Nintendo Switch
According to this report from Variety (via Game Rant), the Switch port is titled the Ultimate Slasher Switch Edition. This edition comes bundled with all of the game’s previously released free and paid DLC, including the following:
- All Jason Kill packs
- Counselor Clothing packs 1 and 2
- The Emote Party pack
Here’s the full press announcement from Gun Media Communications Director Daniel Nixon:
“We’re happy to be bringing ‘Friday the 13th: The Game’ to the Nintendo Switch with the help of our partners at Black Tower and Nighthawk. The Nintendo Switch offers a unique experience, in both social settings and on the go, that we feel work very well with ‘Friday the 13th: The Game.’”
The Switch port’s announcement is somewhat surprising given Gun Media’s current predicament with the Friday the 13th licensing rights. Due to an ongoing legal dispute involving Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller, no new franchise content can be produced. This effectively killed Friday the 13th: The Game’s momentum since Gun Media can’t produce any new DLC for the game.
All preexisting DLC is allowed to stay and Gun was at least able to add in features like dedicated servers. Sadly, until the lawsuit is resolved, Gun can’t add any new content, not even original content, into the game. Friday the 13th: The Game is essentially frozen in time, and its Switch port will follow the same structure.
Neither a price nor a specific release date have been confirmed for Friday the 13th’s Switch version. Meanwhile, one of the game’s main competitors, Dead by Daylight, is still trucking along with new updates.
