Rumor: A Future Obsidian Fallout Game Could Actually Happen

The internet is buzzing today with the news that Microsoft is acquiring Bethesda. A lot of the conversation revolves around whether this means that future entries in major Bethesda series will be exclusives, but Fallout fans are focusing on something else: the possibility for a future Obsidian Fallout game.

Could a Future Obsidian Fallout Game Be In Store?

Fallout: New Vegas was published by Bethesda but developed by Obsidian, and has many loyal fans who love what Obsidian brought to the table. For years now, it has seemed unlikely Bethesda and Obsidian would team up again. But now, Microsoft owns both companies.

Moreover, a fan asked Obsidian directly whether Fallout New Vegas 2 was “a legit possibility now,” and Obsidian responded with a smiling shrug emoji. Take a look at the tweet.

A smiling shrug is certainly not a promise. But it isn’t a denial either. And it is hard not to look at it as a potential hint. Could this mean that Obsidian, Bethesda and Microsoft have already talked about making another Fallout game, at least entertaining the possibility? It is hard to imagine it has not at least come up. That being said though, Obsidian does seem quite busy these days with its own IPs. So, would they have the time and resources to dedicate to another Fallout game? Maybe, maybe not. A lot would probably depend on the timing. Either way, at least Obsidian’s vague response gives us some hope for the possibilities.
