In the wake of current events, and following similar actions by Sony and others, Gearbox has announced that the studio is postponing the launch of the new Borderlands 3 Takedown at the Guardian Breach mission. The new Takedown was originally due to launch tomorrow, on the 4th of June.

Throughout this week, Gearbox has muted their social media channels in a show of respect for the protests against racial injustice which have been taking place across the world. However, the studio briefly broke their silence to release a statement earlier today. That statement announced the postponement of tomorrow’s launch of Takedown at the Guardian Breach. “This week we muted our channel out of respect for what’s going on in the world,” they wrote; “and we will be postponing the launch of Takedown at the Guardian Breach.“
“We are increasing funding for our 2K foundations program by an additional $1M and expanding its mission to help fight racial injustice and inequalities in black communities across the globe,” the statement continues; “Black lives matter.”
The postponement comes after similar postponements or delays across the gaming industry. Sony, for example, chose to postpone a major PS5 reveal event which was due to take place this week; perhaps the most high-profile cancellation thus far. As protests continue worldwide, most companies have chosen to mute their social media feeds and delay new releases, so as not to distract from more important real-world causes.
Gearbox has not announced a new release date for the Borderlands 3 Takedown. Indeed, the studio is unlikely to do so soon, while their channel remains muted. Presumably, the Takedown will be released at a more appropriate juncture in the near future. When it does launch, Takedown at the Guardian Breach will be a free content update for Borderlands 3. It will be Borderlands 3’s second Takedown mission, featuring the new planet of Minos Prime as its setting.
