Gearbox Confirms Borderlands Science is a Permanent Addition
Last week, Gearbox announced the launch of Borderlands Science; an all-new arcade puzzle game which is now available in Borderlands 3. Developed in conjunction with several academic institutions, the game is designed to help the real-world scientific community. Now, Gearbox has confirmed that Borderlands Science is indeed a permanent addition to Borderlands 3. Furthermore, they could bring it to mobile in the future too.
Borderlands Science is Permanent and May Come to Mobile
Borderlands Science was developed by Gearbox together with McGill University, Massively Multiplayer Online Science, and the Microsetta Initiative. The arcade game, which players can find in the infirmary aboard Sanctuary III, will apparently help scientists align the DNA sequences of gut bacteria. In theory, this could be a boon for the development of future medical treatments, etc. To incentivise players to try it out, playing the game is a way for people to gain in-game rewards and currency.
Now, Gearbox has confirmed that Borderlands Science isn’t a limited-time mode, but rather a permanent addition. In fact, the game could eventually get its own release as a standalone mobile game too. In response to a recent tweet requesting a mobile version of Borderlands Science, the official Gearbox Twitter account responded; “We’ve seen a lot of people asking for this and are looking into it.”
If the game does eventually come to mobile, it’s possible that Gearbox could tie it in somewhat to their existing SHiFT system. This could enable the game to still offer rewards for your Borderlands 3 account, despite being on mobile, relatively simply. In the meanwhile, Borderlands 3 players have plenty to keep them busy. The Rare Chest Riches and Loot Monster Mayhem mini-events are a couple of days from ending, for instance, with more events soon to replace them. Meanwhile, Gearbox’s month-long Co-op Loot Drop event continues to reward gamers who play with friends online.
