Gearbox has become the latest development studio to launch a charitable program in support of relief for the areas in Australia that have been devastated by bushfires, following Infinity Ward’s recent ‘Outback Relief Program‘. In the case of Gearbox, the studio has announced that they will be auctioning off a variety of rare Borderlands 3 merch, with the winning bid becoming a donation to support relief efforts.
Gearbox’s Borderlands 3 Merch Charity Auction
“Gearbox supports #gamedevsforfiries to help Australian brushfire relief,” announced the studio on Twitter, earlier today; “We’re auctioning off some rare items. Reply to the following tweets with your bid. The highest bidder will be contacted to make a donation in that amount and receive that item.”
The Borderlands 3 merch in question is a so-called ‘Diamond Loot Chest’. This chest contains the game itself, as well as its Season Pass and a variety of bonus digital content, but also includes a physical replica of a chest from the game, ten character figurines, keychains, a cloth map, character lithographs, a steelbook case, and even a snap model of Sanctuary 3! In addition to that impressive bundle, the studio is also auctioning off a separate Borderlands 3 print. This collector’s item, which has never been available before, will be autographed by the artists and devs who worked on the game.
To make a donation, all that fans need to do is reply below the relevant tweet with their bid. There are two tweets, one for the Diamond Loot Chest, and one for the autographed print. The auction will close on the 22nd of January at 12:00 PM PST. At that point, Gearbox will contact the highest bidder and arrange for the charitable donation. In the coming days, now that both Gearbox and Infinity Ward have done this, other studios may well follow suit. Fans of Respawn, for example, have been pushing for the studio to do something similar on social media.
