[Borderlands 3 story spoilers below – proceed at own risk!] More than a month after the game’s launch, Gearbox has revealed a final Borderlands 3 planet page on the game’s website. Prior to launch, Gearbox used these pages to tease the new planets coming to the game alongside Pandora; Athenas, Eden-6, and Promethea. However, they carefully kept a fifth planet under wraps so that players would be surprised at the reveal during the story. Now, that final planet page for Nekrotafeyo is available to read.
The Secret Borderlands 3 Planet: Nekrotafeyo
“Somewhere in a long-forgotten region of uncharted space lies Nekrotafeyo,” explains Gearbox; “the fabled homeworld of the lost Eridian civilisation. Though their monuments and relics still stand, their original purposes are lost to time, ancient riddles carved from stone and light. Strange native predators and Eridian Guardians are all that are left behind, but that won’t stop Maliwan from sending their elite forces to try and control the planet’s ruins and natural resources.”
Nekrotafeyo is the final planet that players visit during the Borderlands 3 story. However, its existence was a well-kept secret for quite a long time. Gearbox focused heavily on the other three new worlds in trailers and promotional material. As a result, travelling to Nekrotafeyo came as something of a surprise in the game’s story. Indeed, it plays a pivotal role in the story’s latter stages as the planet where players meet Typhon DeLeon.
Included with the brief description of the final Borderlands 3 planet are several screenshots which showcase the landscape of Nekrotafeyo; an arid and rocky grey desert contrasted by spans of overgrown alien forest. The Maliwan forces and Guardians which control the Eridian ruins should be familiar to players by the time they arrive. However, the strange native fauna which inhabit the overgrown areas have no parallels on the other planets. Guardians are the enemy which players will find most abundantly here, however, still protecting the ancient Eridian ruins.
