It’s been three years since the release of the last Witcher game to feature Geralt of Rivia as the protagonist. However, since then, the famous monster slayer has made a few appearances in other games. Of course, he plays a role in Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, but he also appears as a playable fighter in SoulCalibur VI. Now, Capcom has announced the next upcoming Monster Hunter: World crossover, and it’s set to feature Geralt of Rivia!
Geralt of Rivia Will Appear in a Monster Hunter: World Crossover
Although the lush and monstrous jungles of Monster Hunter: World, with its oversized weapons and Felyne companions, might seem rather at odds with the gritty Slavic world of The Witcher, the two have one thing in common; huge monsters. A trailer for the upcoming “Monster Hunter: World – The Witcher 3 Collaboration,” went live last week. The content update will be free for all players at some stage in early 2019. The exact date has yet to be announced, but it is supposedly to launch months ahead of Iceborne; the game’s next major expansion.
Monster Hunter: World already has its fair share of crossovers; Final Fantasy, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and even Megaman have all had collaborations with the title in the past. A collaboration with The Witcher might be more unexpected were it not for Geralt’s appearance in SoulCalibur VI last year. It seems that CD Projekt Red has no qualms with having their last major protagonist take the occasional outing to another game. In this case, they seem to be giving his appearance a pseudo-canonical explanation too! The Witcher can be seen emerging from one of The Witcher series’ portals and arriving in Monster Hunter: World.
The upcoming update will allow gamers to play as Geralt of Rivia in-game. It’s unknown exactly how that will work, whether he’ll be using the Monster Hunter: World weapons and movesets, or whether he’ll be using his trusty silver sword and signs. Fans will have to wait and see.
