Ghost Recon Wildlands’ previously teased Special Operation 4, the last major Year 2 update for the game, is officially live. The update includes a new wave-based PvE experience called Guerrilla Mode, a new Sapper class for Ghost War, and more.
Ghost Recon Wildlands Special Operation 4 Highlights
Unlike Wildlands’ previous Year 2 operations, Special Operation 4 doesn’t have a unique crossover theme. Instead, Ubisoft is using Special Operation 4 to shore up the game’s PvE viability and introduce some community-requested features. PvE players can now manually set the time of day and utilize the Ghost War HUD compass if they prefer.
PvE players looking for a challenge can also take on the new Guerrilla Mode experience. In Guerrilla Mode, players must defend a fixed location from 25 waves of AI enemies. In-between rounds, players can trade in resources scavenged from fallen foes for new weapons, attachments, and perks. Guerrilla Mode is playable either solo with AI teammates or with up to three other players via matchmaking.
As for Wildlands’ Ghost War PvP experience, players can now utilize the new Sapper class. The Sapper is equipped with a drone which deploys concussion mines. Enemies caught in a concussion mine’s blast lose stamina, are suppressed, and can’t sprint. Along with the Sapper class, Special Operation 4 introduces two new Ghost War maps: Airbase and Gas Station.
Those who own Wildlands’ Year 2 Pass can also claim an exclusive ‘Active Duty’ cosmetic item pack. As usual, the new Sapper class is also exclusive to Year 2 Pass owners for seven days. Anyone who played Wildlands between April 1, 2018 and March 31, 2019 can also claim a special Anniversary Item Pack. This pack is available via the Ubisoft Club service.
