God of War’s Final Easter Egg Has Left Many Disappointed

After months of searching, every God of War Easter egg has now been found, according to Santa Monica Studios. The final Easter egg went undiscovered for a long time, but was recently unearthed by gamers after a hint was given by the developers at San Diego Comic-Con. Unfortunately, many fans have been left disappointed by the somewhat lackluster revelation.

The Final God of War Easter Egg

For a long time, director Cory Barlog had repeated that gamers had yet to find one last Easter egg in God of War. Last week, he and other developers from Santa Monica Studios hosted a presentation at San Diego Comic-Con. During that presentation, the team showed off a storyboard called “The Hunt”; one of the first pieces of art created during God of War’s development. Following the event, a senior artist tweeted that the storyboard offered fans a hint as to the location of the final undiscovered Easter egg. Fans quickly discerned that it referred to Kratos and Atreus’ house from the start of the game; thus began days of patient searching.

Other God of War Easter Eggs Have Been More Substantial

Eventually, the secret was discovered; although many continued to search under the assumption that the final Easter egg would be more significant. Gamers found four runes carved into beams inside the house. Translated and arranged correctly, the runes spell out the name; “Loki”. The name teases a major revelation which otherwise comes only at the very end of the game. However, it’s certainly not new information to the majority of players who have already completed the story by now.

Reactions to the Final God of War Easter Egg

Previous Easter eggs have included a God of War version of the Infinity Gauntlet, and a hidden item cache. As a result, players may have expected more from the long-hyped final Easter egg. Of course, it’s worth noting that the developers may not have known which Easter eggs people would find first. Indeed, the hidden cache also required gamers to translate runes, and could easily have been the final Easter egg. Ultimately, with content such as this the developers can only plan so much, and the rest is down to chance. While this final Easter egg may not have been particularly revelatory, there God of War certainly doesn’t lack for others.
