The latest God of War was widely praised for the quality of its story. Now, however, fans will be able to enjoy that story in novel form, as a God of War novelization is now available to pre-order. The book is the work of J.M. Barlog; the game director’s father. It will release later this month.

The official description from the publisher, Titan Books, reads thusly; “His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive… and teach his son to do the same. This startling re-imagining of God of War deconstructs the core elements that defined the series – satisfying combat; breathtaking scale; and a powerful narrative – and fuses them anew.”
The novelization is a hefty work of fiction which totals 352 pages. J.M. Barlog may be Cory Barlog’s father, but he is also a prolific novelist, primarily in the suspense and mystery genres. The Amazon listing describes the novelist as having; “authored numerous novels across many genres. Windows to the Soul, his debut novel, won the Readers’ Choice award for suspense at an Illinois ‘Love Is Murder’ Mystery Conference. But his greatest accomplishments are his three children and his grandchildren. Barlog currently lives with his wife in Southern California, where he is busy writing sequels to his popular novels The Heart of the Lion, Minno, and A Connecticut Nightmare.”
God of War was certainly an impressive and emotional narrative experience. Here’s hoping that Barlog has likewise done a good job honing the game’s story into this novelization.
