The Golden Joystick Awards 2019 nominees are officially here with several international football titles up for awards. Konami’s eFootball PES 2020, as well as EA Sports’ FIFA 19 and FIFA 20 games are all nominees in some of this year’s categories. However, both games will have some tough competition from other nominees, including each other. Here’s what they’re contending for, how to vote, and when the show will take place.
eFootball PES 2020, FIFA 20 contenders at Golden Joysticks Awards 2019
The Golden Joysticks Awards 2019 revealed nominees and opened voting to fans recently. There are at least 17 categories of nominees, ranging from Best Storytelling to Most Wanted Game. Konami’s eFootball PES 2020 and EA’s FIFA 20 will be amongst the contenders for the Best Multiplayer Game.
They’re vying with other popular titles including Ubisoft’s The Division 2, Nintendo’s Tetris 99, Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Online, and 2K Games’ Borderlands 3. EA also has their popular title Apex Legends in the category along with FIFA 20, which as of this report has yet to be officially released. Meanwhile, the new eFootball PES 2020 has been available for gamers to play on PS4, Xbox One, and PCs worldwide since September 10.
In the nominee description for FIFA 20, they mention the return of “FIFA Street” to the game. The new EA title features VOLTA Football mode which allows gamers to play in 3-vs-3 battles on street playgrounds around the world. Here’s a look at a bit of gameplay from that mode on the game.
FIFA 19 also amongst this year’s nominees
EA’s FIFA 19 finds itself nominated in a separate category, eSports Game of the Year. Games Radar states “This award celebrates spectator experiences: thrilling championship finales and season-spanning storylines.”
FIFA 19 will be part of a tough field of nominees. It includes Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (Activision), Fortnite (Epic Games), League of Legends (Riot Games), Overwatch (Blizzard Entertainment), and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo). Just based on those other titles, it’s going to be a tough category for the football sim title to win.
Voting for the Golden Joystick Awards 2019 is currently open online. Gamers can head over to Games Radar here to cast votes in the categories ahead of the awards event.
The event itself, which will be the 37th annual edition, arrives on November 15 from London’s Bloomsbury Big Top. The Golden Joystick Awards 2019 will be live-streaming online for viewers to see all of the big winners as they’re announced.
