Ahead of the announcement of The Hunter and The Beast DLC, Creative Assembly released a teaser image indicating the next three Free-LC content releases that would be coming for Total War: Warhammer 2. After the “Legendary Lord,” which has now been revealed as Gor-Rok, and the Empire rework, there was a more cryptic entry that referenced “Old Friends”. Since then, fans have had a variety of theories, and the predominant one has now been confirmed; Creative Assembly is bringing the famous Warhammer duo of Gotrek & Felix to Total War: Warhammer 2!
How to Get Gotrek and Felix in Total War: Warhammer 2
“Gotrek and Felix are legendary adventurers and mercenaries,” writes Creative Assembly; “known throughout the Warhammer world by those that sing their praises and curse their names. Veterans of countless minor scrapes and grand battles, both are formidable warriors in their own right and would make a welcome addition to any army, if a commander is able to keep their attention for long enough…”
Gotrek and Felix are some of the best-known characters in Warhammer Fantasy lore, having starred in numerous Black Library novels chronicling their adventures. Now, they will be making their way to Total War: Warhammer 2. However, their release is somewhat atypical. Initially, the duo will only be available to readers of the September issue of White Dwarf; Games Workshop’s official Warhammer magazine. This will be available in stores as well as via the company’s online store. However, the free DLC will eventually be available to everybody on the 17th of October. At this point, fans will need to download them from Total War Access (a free resource on the Total War website).
In-game, Gotrek and Felix are highly unique. They will only be available in single-player campaigns, and can be recruited by Empire, Bretonnia, and Dwarfs. Any of these factions can recruit them by going to a particular quest marker, which brings both characters into your faction. Gotrek will be a unique Lord, while Felix is a unique Hero in his army. Once you recruit them, you can use them for 20 turns, at which point they will leave the faction. However, they will eventually return; “their wanderings will inevitably lead them back to you at some point,” explains Creative Assembly; “and you’ll find they have likely increased in prowess in the meantime. Just be wary of any enemies they may have made while they’ve been away…”
As an added bonus, Creative Assembly has confirmed that Gotrek will be voiced in-game by Brian Blessed; no doubt providing a more than bombastic-enough tone for the death-seeking Slayer!
