Dettlaff van der Eretein, the so-called ‘Beast of Beauclair,’ returns to the world of the Witcher in Gwent: Crimson Curse, the first expansion for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. Crimson Curse is available from today, and brings with it a new leader for every faction. CD Projekt Red has now revealed that the new Monsters faction leader is Dettlaff himself, returning for the first time since his appearance in The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine DLC.
Gwent: Crimson Curse Adds the ‘Beast of Beauclair’ as a Faction Leader
Dettlaff joins the roster of Gwent faction leaders as a leader for the Monsters faction. Thus far, CD Projekt Red have revealed two of the other new faction leaders in Crimson Curse; Dana Méadbh for the Scoia’tael, and (appropriately) Anna Henrietta for Nilfgaard. Fans will of course be familiar with Anna Henrietta from The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine, where she played a leading role along with Dettlaff in the final chapter of Geralt’s story.
In keeping with his monstrous role as the ‘Beast of Beauclair,’ Dettlaff appears to have an aggressive play-style. The higher vampire’s order ability deals 2 direct damage to a unit, with 3 on Charge. If this attack kills an enemy card, it applies a Deathblow effect which spawns an Ekimmara into a random allied row. Additionally, through the use of certain cards, it seems that Dettlaff has the ability to consume his own cards to trigger the Blood Moon to rise over his own rows.
Dettlaff is available to play for free in the new Gwent: Crimson Curse DLC. The expansion launched earlier today on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. The expansion brings over 100 new cards, with at least 14 for each of the five factions and 31 neutral cards. There are still two more faction leaders which CD Projekt Red has yet to reveal; those for the Northern Realms and Skellige factions.
