The new updated Halo: The Master Chief Collection will release soon, but this isn’t even the biggest news about the bundle after all. Mirosoft has announced that Halo MCC will be added to the Xbox Game Pass library in September, letting all fans experience previous Halo games without having to buy the retail or digital edition of it.
Xbox Game Pass is Microsoft’s flagship subscription service, similar to Electronic Arts’ Origin Access. With it, players have access to a massive library of free games to download on their Xbox One or PC, ranging from first party titles like the Gears of War franchise, to major triple A franchises like Call of Duty to indie games. Think of it like a Netflix for video games, costing $10 a month.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection will be added to Xbox Game Pass in September, while the catalog already has a few Halo games for you to try out until then. Here’s what s included right now:
- Halo: Definitive Edition
- Halo 2
- Halo Spartan Assault
- Halo 5: Guardians
As for the Halo: The Master Chief Collection itself, it includes Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 4, and all of their original multiplayer modes. The Halo 3: ODST campaign was later added as an add-on DLC. There’s no stated release day for the long awaited update for the game yet, however, it won’t be long given the state of development it currently is in.
Over the past months, Microsoft has been bringing more and more games to Xbox Game Pass, including Metro Exodus and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which will be added to the service on launch day.
Additionally, all future first-party releases will be added on release day. That means that Halo: Infinite will join Halo: The Master Chief collection when it releases, making Xbox Game Pass the ultimate service for Halo fans to subscribe to if they want to check those games out without actually having to buy them.
