After weeks of rumors, it was confirmed during E3 that there will in fact be a battle royale mode included in Battlefield V. Initially, not a lot of information was revealed. Since then however, DICE has dropped a few hints about what we can expect.
Design Director Daniel Berlin was speaking with Geoff Keighley during Keighley’s livestream coverage, and stated that the new mode will include a lot of familiar elements that gamers are used to from other Battlefield modes. Squad and team play will be incorporated into the mode, as will vehicles. Additionally, the environments will contain destructible elements. Unfortunately, Berlin did not offer up any further information about the destructibility of the maps.
Considering that vehicles don’t play much of a role in Fortnite or PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, this is a great way for Battlefield to set its battle royale mode apart from others. Vehicles taking a large part could vastly alter the strategies and tactics needed to win.
You may have heard in the past that this game mode would not be available on launch. Berlin confirmed that as well. It will be released later as a post-launch update. This will keep the spotlight on the other game modes at launch, and it will also provide enough time for DICE to finish polishing up the battle royale mode so that it will play smoothly right from the off. So while it’s easy to feel disappointed that we won’t be able to play battle royale mode right away, our patience should pay off.
Battlefield V will launch on October 19th. Gamers who buy the Deluxe edition will be able to enjoy the game several days early on October 16th. Get in those pre-orders, and keep checking back with us for more details over the weeks ahead!
