Hitman 2 is now available to the masses, bringing with it a bunch of new features and game modes. However, one of the sequel’s more unique features is actually a returning element from its 2016 predecessor. In 2016’s Hitman, developer Io Interactive introduced the Elusive Targets feature as a sort of ultimate test for dedicated players. Elusive Targets are returning in Hitman 2, but if you’re not sure exactly what they are, we’ve got you covered.
What are Hitman 2’s Elusive Targets?
Elusive Targets are designed to challenge the player with unique criteria while also upping the tension through harsh failure penalties. True to their name, Elusive Targets are highly paranoid, and if they successfully escape, they disappear for good. In terms of gameplay, this means that players only get one crack at each target. If you die or the target escapes, there are no second chances.
Io also implemented additional modifiers which increase the difficulty even further. Unlike standard targets, Elusive Targets don’t appear on the radar or while the player is using Instinct. You can’t manually save while attempting such missions either. However, you can restart the mission as long as the target hasn’t been killed or alerted. After that point, the player has to make sure they kill the target and successfully escape.
Most Elusive Target missions also have secondary goals such as securing an item or using a specific kill method. These secondary goals aren’t always mandatory, but you must complete them if you want to earn the coveted “Silent Assassin” mission rating. In 2016’s Hitman, completing Elusive Targets was the only way to earn many of the game’s more coveted unlockable outfits. The same will likely remain true for Hitman 2 as well.
Hitman 2’s very first Elusive Target arrives one week from today, on November 20. The inaugural target is played by none other than Game of Thrones’ Sean Bean. Like all other Elusive Targets, he’ll only be around for a few days, so be sure to act fast. Meanwhile, if you want to revisit the old 2016 Hitman haunts, there’s a way to do that within Hitman 2.
