With it launching today, many players are wondering about Hitman 2 multiplayer. The original Hitman season one did not traditional online multiplayer available for players. However, did that change for its sequel? It wouldn’t be surprising given that this game is also doing away with the episodic structure of its predecessor. Though there are several large mission areas to explore, multiplayer will certainly add to the length of the game.
In the past, there have been elusive targets and other online missions available. However, those aren’t actually online multiplayer-related and didn’t involve other players directly. Has that changed with Hitman 2? Let’s dive deep into what developer IO Interactive has given us with Hitman 2 multiplayer this time around.
Is There Hitman 2 Multiplayer?
Let’s go ahead and get the answer right out of the way. Yes, there is online multiplayer available for Hitman 2. However, don’t get too excited too fast. The online multiplayer mode that is available at launch does come with a couple of caveats worth noting. For one, no, this isn’t a “traditional” mode of assassinating other players and so on.
Instead, Hitman 2 multiplayer is available in the form of a mode called Ghost Mode. While you are competing against one other player on a level, you aren’t trying to kill one another. Instead, you are racing against each other to see who can silently assassinate five random targets first. You can interfere with the other player occasionally using ghost coins. These allow you to spring up problems for your opponent like making a guard move towards them.
Also, weapons and such are very limited. If you happen to grab a gun from a crate first, your opponent won’t be able to get a weapon from there anymore. Ghost Mode is available only on the Miami level at launch but there are plans for it to come to other levels in the future.
