Three years after its original release as a PS4 exclusive, PC players can finally get their hands on Horizon: Zero Dawn, which launches today on PC. The launch marks the first time that a major PS4 exclusive has made its way to PC post-launch, opening the door to other titles potentially following a similar route.
Horizon: Zero Dawn is Now Available on PC
Horizon: Zero Dawn launches on PC today, the 7th of August. PC gamers have been waiting patiently for months, after rumours of the PC launch first surfaced back in February. Although fans had known that it was coming for months prior, Guerilla Games didn’t actually announce the Horizon: Zero Dawn PC release date until last month. At last, the game’s PC launch is now upon us.
The Horizon: Zero Dawn Complete Edition – as the new PC version is entitled – includes a few new features designed exclusively for PC. Of course, these include the sorts of graphical options and configurability that you would expect from a PC title. (Along with full mouse & keyboard controls, etc.) However, these features also include non-standard offerings like ultra-wide screen support and unlocked frame rates.
Horizon: Zero Dawn is the first major PS4 exclusive which has made the transition to PC post-launch. It’s notable that this PC release comes shortly after the announcement of a PS5-exclusive sequel, Horizon: Forbidden West. With a next-gen console on the way, as well as other major exclusives coming in the next year, it’s possible that other PS4 exclusive titles might follow Horizon to PC; titles like Uncharted, The Last of Us, God of War, and Marvel’s Spider-Man, for example. However, for the time being at least, fans will have to wait and see. Sony has not announced any specific plans to bring any other games to PC just yet.
