The Valkyries are a group of eight hidden bosses in God of War. Once players are finished with the main story, these fearsome adversaries are one of the game’s largest pieces of post-game content. All eight Valkyries are among the game’s most formidable enemies. As a result, bringing down all eight requires careful preparation and practice.
Hildr is God of War’s fifth Valkyrie. After you have defeated her comrades, Eir, Geirdriful, Gondul, and Gunnr, you should head for Niflheim to face this powerful boss. As with every Valkyrie, the first step to defeating Hildr is preparation. Ensure that your Spartan Rage and Runic attack meters are filled before you start the fight. In addition, be sure to bring a Resurrection Stone. Valkyries can be tricky opponents, and most have some form of unblockable attack.
While most Valkyries are not too difficult to find, Hildr is an exception. Dwelling deep in the shadowy realm of Niflheim, finding the Valkyrie can be a task in and of itself. To find her, stick to the left wall. From the entry chamber, head left to the first large chamber and follow the left wall around to the next tunnel. Halfway down that corridor, in the safe area, take a left turn and Hildr’s arena lies at the end of the path.
Fighting Hildr
Hildr is both mobile and dangerous at range. Fortunately, the traits that Niflheim grant Kratos continue to apply in this battle, making your attacks stronger. As a result, Hildr may feel the easiest of the eight Valkyries, though she is still a significant challenge.
While her dash attack may look intimidating, it can be parried, giving you an opportunity to counter. Similarly, when she fires barrages of ranged attacks, they can be blocked. Beware, however; Hildr often follows a barrage with a single large ball of ice which cannot be blocked, but this attack is telegraphed with a red circle. She can also use a yellow blast of energy as a ranged attack, which also cannot be dodged. Fortunately, this attacks is also telegraphed with a similar red circle.
As with some of her comrades, try your best to keep her on the ground. Use Atreus to knock her out of the sky if she attempts to hover, as she can dive into an unblockable attack. Her other attacks are similar to those of previous Valkyries, and can be dealt with the same way.
Once you have defeated Hildr, be sure to collect the loot. Defeating her earns you Hildr’s Helmet, an Epic enchantment called Heart of the Valkyrie, Epic chest armour called Cuirass of the Valkyrie, an Epic axe pommel called Wing of the Valkyrie, and both Epic and regular Asgardian Steel.
