The second Call of Duty: Modern Warfare weekend is now underway and tomorrow, the Early Access period will end for PC and Xbox One, allowing even more gamers to access the event. Of course, one of the most interesting features of this Beta is the fact that crossplay is enabled; the first time that such a feature has ever been available in a Call of Duty title. If you’re unsure how to get crossplay set up so that you can connect with friends on other platforms, this is how to do so.
How to Connect with Friends Through Modern Warfare Crossplay
To get Call of Duty: Modern Warfare crossplay set up isn’t too complex, fortunately. Of course, crossplay itself is a feature which you can opt in and out of, but connecting with friends directly is a little more complex. After all, you won’t be able to find them using the normal methods for Steam, Xbox One, or PS4. To get started, open the Multiplayer menu and open “Social,” which can be found towards the top-right of the screen, together with the appropriate button prompt for your platform.
Modern Warfare’s crossplay system enables you to connect across platforms by using Activision IDs. This means that both yourself and anybody you want to play with will need to have an Activision account. In the Social menu, you should see two options for inviting friends; one for inviting friends on your platform, and one for inviting friends through Activision. Select the latter, which will open a sidebar and prompt you to “Enter Activision Account to send invite.”
Simply enter your friend’s Activision account ID in full (including any numbers). This will dispatch a friend request to the person in question. If you’re the recipient of such a request, you’ll need to open the Social menu and click to Invite Friends. This should open up a sidebar. From here, navigate to the “Friend Requests” tab and you should be able to see any pending friend requests. Once you accept, you’ll be connected via Activision and should be able to join one another’s parties.
