God of War’s Valkyries are a group of special bosses to defeat after the end of the game. Scattered throughout the game world, each one is a significant challenge even for experienced players. While Eir might number among the easiest, that doesn’t mean that she will be a pushover. If you’re looking to take down this mountain-dwelling Valkyrie, you should plan well for the fight before running in.
The best thing that you can do when fighting a Valkyrie is to prepare. Before starting the boss-fight, make sure your runic attack and Spartan Rage meters are full and ready to be used. Luckily, there is a Mystic Gateway outside of Eir’s arena, so you can easily return once your preparations are complete. Finally, make sure to bring a Resurrection Stone. You never know when the Valkyrie might catch you off-guard.
Eir can be found in The Heart of the Mountain, in one of the Hidden Chambers of Odin which is located close to the main lift. Note that this area is inaccessible until you have retrieved the magical chisel.
Fighting Eir
Similar to her comrade Geirdriful, Eir spends a lot of the fight in the air. Be careful not to get too close when she’s flying, as you risk losing sight of her when she rises up out of the camera’s line of sight. Eir’s primary aerial attack is a dash where she will charge Kratos with her staff, telegraphed by a yellow circle. This can be parried, opening the Valkyrie up for a counter. Atreus can also stop this attack by hitting her with arrows and knocking her to the ground.
Eir has ranged attacks as well; if she starts to spin her weapon when in the air, try to use arrows to interrupt her before she unleashes an explosive projectile. Her most common attack is a double swing with her staff. The first attack here has area-of-effect damage which blinds you, so dodge roll out of the way if possible. If she slides rapidly towards you, dodge. The slide will be immediately followed by a stab that cannot be blocked. Finally, Eir can use her wings as a shield. Double-tap L1 or hit her with a charged strong or Runic attack in order to break the shield.
Once you have defeated Eir, you will be rewarded with Eir’s Helmet, an epic enchentment called the Eye of the Winged Chosen, an Epic axe pommel called Valkyrie’s Might, and Asgardian Steel.
