Once players have completed its story, God of War provides a respectable amount of post-game content to keep gamers invested. Chief among this content are the Valkyries; fearsome adversaries even for experienced players.
Geirdriful is one such Valkyrie. She is located in a Hidden Chamber of Odin in the Foothills of Midgard. Primarily a ranged combatant, she can be very difficult to defeat without the correct strategy. To have a chance, you should prepare carefully; be sure to fill your Runic attack and Spartan Rage meters before you start the fight, for example. Of course, be sure to bring a Resurrection Stone too, unless you’re feeling especially confident.
Fighting Geirdriful
Valkyries can be overwhelming in battle. They strike fast, but they do follow patterns if you watch carefully. Learning how to respond to those patterns is key. However, unlike other Valkyries, Geirdriful’s moves are harder to spot. You should focus on blocking her attacks primarily, as she can hit you when you try to evade.
When she takes flight you have a major opening to strike; use Atreus to hit her with arrows while she hovers, which should cause her to fall. Fail to do so quickly, and she may unleash a ground pound attack with hits a wide area and does massive damage. Get too close here and you also risk losing sight of her as she rises above the camera’s arc of view. Keep your distance, or else you may not see an attack telegraphed before it hits. She also has an unblockable grab attack when she is hovering; another reason to stay well clear.
The Valkyrie Geirdriful’s primary attack are yellow or black magical projectiles. These can be blocked, but if you see a red circle, beware. The red circle warns you that she will use a variant which cannot be blocked.
If you are able to defeat Geirdriful, the rewards are significant. You will be rewarded with Geirdriful’s Helmet, an Epic enchantment called the Heart of Vanaheim, as well as Asgardian and Perfect Asgardian Steel.
