If you’re a big Fortnite fan (and honestly, who isn’t?) you should be taking care of your Epic Games account. That may sound like common sense, but you may not realize how many players there are out there with accounts that have been stolen by hackers looking to gain access to others’ information. There’s a big market out there for hacked Fortnite accounts, unfortunately, and you don’t want to let your precious account fall prey to a bunch of hackers trying to get into it and make all your goodies theirs. Yes, that includes your credit, debit, or even PayPal login information — and that’s bad news.
Luckily, in addition to creating a secure password that no one will guess, there’s more that you can do to keep things safe. It’s called two-factor authentication, or 2FA, and it’s available on several online accounts. You’ll enter your password, and a code will be sent to your phone or email that you then enter into your login screen. Usually hackers won’t have access to both accounts, so they won’t be able to log in to your accounts, at least not without a fight. Epic Games allows you to do this with your Epic Games account, so make sure you follow these instructions and lock it all the way down.
How to Turn on Two-Factor Authentication For Your Epic Games Account
- Log into your Epic Games account.
- Find Password & Security and click it.
- Look for the Two-Factor Sign In section at the bottom and verify your email address, unless you’ve already done this before.
- Ensure your email is verified, log back into your account, and go back to the Password & Security page.
- Go down to the bottom and click the big, blue Enable Two-Factor Sign In button.
That’s about it. It’s a very simple process, though you don’t need to use your cell phone for this 2FA method. Epic Games will instead email you a six-digit code to the email on file. It can be a bit of a hassle to have a code emailed to you every time you log in, but luckily Epic Games only requires that you enter it once on the platform you’re playing on every 30 days, so make sure you lock things down and keep your account safe. You never know what kind of ne’er-do-wells are lurking out there.
