Epic Games has recently released many Fortnite cosmetic items for free. These items do not require any purchase, however, players have to complete certain tasks to unlock them. Most of these free items come from the Fortnitemares event as players need to finish quests to earn them, but there is a new skin (outfit) players can unlock by leveling up with their friend!
The Rainbow Racer is a new free Fortnite skin that can be earned during Season 8. Beside the skin, players can also earn a free glider, a pickaxe, and a few other items. This set of cosmetic items is used for a Refer A Friend Fortnite promotion and will be active for more than two months.
Earn free Fortnite cosmetic items with your friend
Unlocking the Rainbow Racer skin is pretty straightforward. It works through the Refer a Friend program as players have to bring a new player to the game to unlock the skin. If you want to give it a shot, here is everything you need to do!
- Visit the Refer a Friend Fortnite website
- Login with the Epic Games account you want the skin on
- Invite a friend who meets the criteria for the program
- Wait for the friend to accept the invite
- Invite the friend to a party and complete challenges together
Once you add that friend, you will automatically unlock the Gridlock loading screen. After playing a game with the friend, you will unlock Miridescent weapon wrap and you will unlock the Flair Fare glider after finishing three times in top 10 with the friend. The Drive Shaft pickaxe is unlocked by getting 10 eliminations with the referred friend.
How to unlock the Free Fortnite skin
The free Fortnite skin can be unlocked easily, but it requires a lot of time. To unlock the Rainbow Racer skin, you will have to gain 60 levels after referring a friend. Furthermore, your friend will also have to gain 60 levels for you to unlock the skin. Considering that players have until January 10 to get this done and that leveling is quite quick this season, this should not be a problem.
Many players have complained about this requirement, so it will be interesting to see if Epic Games changes it soon. However, it is unlikely that there will be any changes since this was probably done to prevent players from creating new accounts and referring themselves.
