With the launch of Modern Warfare’s 2nd season, players got a wealth of new content, from new maps to new modes and new weapons. Included amongst that was the less-obvious but no less game-changing new perk Akimbo. The Modern Warfare Akimbo perk allows players to wield a sidearm in both hands, but you’ll need to unlock it before you can use it.
The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Akimbo Perk
To unlock the Modern Warfare Akimbo perk for one of the game’s handguns, you’ll need to complete a specific challenge using that gun. The game will set you the task of scoring 3 kills in 5 different matches with the sidearm. However, you’ll need to do so while using a specific weapon perk, which may differ from weapon to weapon. Given that most sidearms are relatively short-range, it may be wise to try and complete this challenge on the game’s smaller maps.
There is one other way to get access to Akimbo; the new Akimbo Pack Executor bundle, which is available via the in-game store. This pack includes The Executioner handgun with the Akimbo perk pre-unlocked. Once you have the perk available, you can use it to wield two sidearms at once instead of just one. This allows you to effectively double your rate of fire and overall firepower. However, it comes at the expense of not being able to aim down sights. As such, you generally won’t be as accurate while using it.
Given this downside, you should focus on ammo capacity and attachments which boost hip-fire accuracy in the Gunsmith. Indeed, take advantage of the extra firepower by equipping the largest magazine you can, perhaps alongside trigger attachments which speed up your rate of fire. Alternatively, for a more close-quarters loadout, consider sacrificing hip-fire accuracy for a faster firing rate and stabilisation. (After all, you don’t necessarily need accuracy when shooting people point-blank!)
