Path of the Hunter: Where to Hunt the Legendary Animals in Far Cry 3 Classic Edition

Just as in later Far Cry games, Far Cry 3 Classic Edition features missions to hunt especially dangerous animals. The Far Cry 3 remaster is now available for those who purchased the Far Cry 5 Season Pass, and will release to the general public in a few weeks. If you want to acquire the best crafting materials in the game, which are needed to craft top-tier items, you’ll want to complete the Path of the Hunter quests.

There are nine Legendary Animals in total, and in each Path of the Hunter quest you must kill the animal with a specific weapon, so unfortunately, you won’t be able to put your Signature Weapons to use here. These missions can be undertaken after you’ve liberated certain outposts. The Legendary Animals (and the weapon you must kill each with) are as follows:

The Albino Crocodile (Machete)

The Albino Crocodile mission can be started at the Bridge Control outpost on the Southern Island. It can be found in a swamp close to the outpost. You can harvest Albino Crocodile Leather from the carcass, but this is the only Legendary Animal resource which actually isn’t used for crafting; you can sell it for $60.

The Black Panther (Bow)

You can begin this mission after liberating the Orphan Point outpost on the North Island. The Black Panther is more dangerous and tougher than normal Leopards. After killing it, you can harvest Black Panther Leather, which is required to craft an Extended Syringe Kit.

The Blood Komodo (Bow)

The Blood Komodo mission can be undertaken after you liberate the Cliffside Overlook outpost. If you skin the carcass of the Blood Komodo, you’ll acquire Blood Komodo Leather, which is needed to craft the Extended Grenade Pouch.

The Golden Tiger (Bow)

This Path of the Hunter mission can be found at the Mosquito Yard outpost. Like most Legendary Animals, the Golden Tiger is both tougher and more deadly than a normal tiger. Golden Tiger Leather is used to craft the Extended Ammo Pouch.

The Maneater Shark (Bow)

You can undertake this mission after liberating the Kell’s Boar Repairs outpost. The Maneater Shark is a dark-skinned Bull Shark with a hook piercing its jaw. You must kill the shark with a bow, which unfortunately, you can’t use underwater. Aim to use a boat as a shooting platform, thus making it much safer to hunt. Maneater Shark Skin is needed to craft the Extended Arrow Quiver.

The One Horn Buffalo (Shotgun)

This mission can be found at the Camp Murder outpost, and unlike most of the Legendary Animals, the One Horn Buffalo has an accompanying herd, which will attack. Unfortunately, you have to kill the Buffalo with a shotgun, forcing you to get close to the rest of its herd. The hide you skin from its carcass is used to craft the Extended Wallet.

The Undying Bear (Shotgun)

Once you liberate the Cradle Gas outpost, you can access this mission. The bear can be found inside a dark cave, so try pinpointing its location with a hunting syringe before you wander too close. Undying Bear Leather can be used to craft the Extended Loot Rucksack.

The White Belly Tapir (Bow)

The White Belly Tapir mission is at the Rust Yard outpost. Unlike most Legendary Animals, the tapir isn’t aggressive and if startled, will flee rapidly with the rest of its herd, so aim to approach stealthily. White Belly Tapir Leather is needed to craft the Extended Munitions Pouch.

The Yellow Neck Cassowary (Sniper Rifle)

This mission can be started after liberating the AM12 outpost. Yellow Neck Leather is used to craft the Extended Fuel Sling.
