Australia is currently suffering from the worst bushfires on record in the country. A vast swathe of the country has been devastated, many have been forced to evacuate their homes, and half a billion animals have been estimated to have been killed. In the midst of this tragedy, many individuals and organisations around the world have been finding ways to send relief funds, and now Infinity Ward has given the Call of Duty community a chance to do the same. They have announced that all proceeds from the Modern Warfare Outback Pack, which will now be known as the Outback Relief Pack, will be donated to relief efforts in Australia.
The New Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Outback Relief Program
“As part of our efforts to help provide relief toward the devastating bushfires in Australia,” explains Infinity Ward; “we’re donating 100% of Activision’s net proceeds from each purchase of the ‘Outback’ Pack, which we’ve renamed the Outback Relief Pack, across all platforms through January 31st. If you’ve already purchased the Outback Pack, thank you. Your purchase will count toward donation. From everyone at Infinity Ward, Call of Duty, and Activision, thank you for your consideration. Our hearts go out to all those who have been affected.”
The Outback Pack is a cosmetics pack which already exists in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Indeed, as the name implies, it includes various items which all have an Australian-style theme. That pack will, at least for the time being, become known as the ‘Outback Relief Pack’ instead. Until the end of the month, all the profits from purchases of this pack will be donated by Infinity Ward and Activision to help those in Australia who have been affected by the bushfires. Indeed, Infinity Ward even clarified that past purchases of this pack would be donated retroactively.
Indeed, this is exactly what fans of Apex Legends have been calling for Respawn to do. In that case, fans have been calling for Respawn to give Gibraltar a firefighter skin. (With all proceeds from its sale going to help Australian relief efforts.) For now at least, it remains unclear whether they will do so. However, now that Infinity Ward has done this, it’s possible that other major game developers will follow suit.
