It looks like The Last of Us 2 release date could be much sooner than we think. Due to a recent tweet, we now know that the long-awaited sequel has completely finished the recording for the main story. This means that the entire game’s lines are now complete and ready. This great news hints that we might not have to wait too much longer to see Ellie and Joel once again.
News of this comes from a tweet last night by Naughty Dog Vice President Neil Druckmann who also acts as the writer and director for The Last of Us Part 2. He tweeted out a simple image of likely the script for the game. What can we see on the script? Only the words “Cut to Black” and “The End”. This is clearly the final section of the script.
While that could only mean that the team is completely done writing the game, this isn’t the case. Druckmann posted the image along with the caption “Just shot this scene… so…” It is clear that the team is finally done recording the main story of the game but that might not necessarily include side stuff or DLC.
Regardless, it certainly has us hopeful for a The Last of Us 2 release date soon. But before we all get too excited, it’s worth mentioning some caveats. There is, of course, the post-production editing and possible re-recordings that may need to happen from here. In addition, this isn’t a film so that doesn’t necessarily mean that development on the game is also basically done.
It is entirely possible for voice recording to happen as the script is completed nearly at the same time so development on the game could still be a bit away. Yes, it is entirely possible that The Last of Us 2 release date could be this fall or winter but don’t get your hopes up for that. We expect it to release a year from now at the earliest. For the official release date announcement, stay tuned.
