Blackout has just been released and fans are already investing time in it. Now we can have a serious look at the size of the map. We can compare it to its competitors as well as the smallest map in the Black Ops series, Nuketown.
The Blackout Map is 1500 Times Bigger Than Nuketown
According to Treyarch Studio Design Director David Vonderhaar, the Blackout map is the biggest one they’ve ever made. To put that in numbers, it is 1500 times bigger than that of Nuketown. Nuketown is the smallest map in the series and is destined for close combat.
That’s not a new story though, since fans have already figured out the map of Blackout using Nuketown when its first trailer was released. The measurements were quite spot on at that time. Nuketown is already a part of the Blackout map, in the far left right of it to be particular.
Comparing the Blackout Map to that of Fortnite and PUBG
For a few months now we knew that the Blackout map is more or less close to the size of Fortnite’s. Vonderhaal has stated that its size is somewhere between 4.5km2 and 7.4km2. The Fortnite map is 5.5km2 so you can say that they’re pretty much close in size. Both games also have gliding to travel distances easier and vehicles that make games easier and faster.
In comparisson to PUBG though, the Blackout map is particularly small. The Erangel map is 64km2, which is roughly 8 times more than the Blackout map. However, what you’re missing in size in Blackout, you’ll find it in stability and optimization, so we can’t be that mad.
Will you be switching your favorite battle royale game to Blackout now that it has been released? The mode is already popular on Youtube and Twitch with millions of players spending their time playing or watching it live.
