Kerbal Space Program 2 Officially Announced During Gamescom

While Gamescom 2019 has been relatively light on new game announcements, there have been a few, and one in particular has already drawn a lot of attention. Announced with a dramatic new trailer which showcases truly cosmic levels of destruction, Star Theory and Private Division unveiled Kerbal Space Program 2; a sequel to the beloved and acclaimed space flight simulator.

What Do We Know So Far About Kerbal Space Program 2

“With the original Kerbal Space Program having become one of the most beloved games of all time and now bigger than ever,” reads the official statement from the game’s developers; “Kerbal Space Program 2 has been fully redesigned from the ground up to meet the demands of modern and next-generation space exploration, all while maintaining the monumental foundations of the first game.”

The trailer doesn’t show any actual gameplay. However, it does tease greatly expanded exploration options, including resource-gathering colonies and deep-space travel. The second iteration of the now-series is set to include plenty to help new players get started. After all, the game has grown significantly since its launch in 2011! (Besides, the game has always been somewhat mechanically complex.) “New animated tutorials, improved UI, and fully revamped assembly and flight instructions allow both experienced and novice players to quickly put their creativity to the test.”

Kerbal Space Program 2 Announced 2

In addition to plenty of new tech, the game will also allow players to travel beyond the Kerbolar System; the setting of the original game. Coming along with this are Colonies, which players can build on other planets and moons. Players will even be able to use these to build new vehicles, allowing exploration to push further and further into space. In fact, Kerbal Space Program 2 will introduce interstellar travel for the first time; pushing the limits far beyond anything of what was possible in the first game. Finally, the developers teased that multiplayer; a much-requested feature, may finally come to the series with the release of the second game. Currently, the sequel has no official release date. However, it is expected to release sometime in “Spring 2020.”
