Last year, prior to the release of Borderlands 3, Gearbox unexpectedly released a whole new Borderlands 2 DLC; “Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary“. This expansion serves to bridge the gap between Borderlands 2 & 3, adding new loot and enemies to the franchise’s classic second installment. Now, that DLC is coming to the Epic Games Store, and moreover, it will be free to download for the whole month.
“Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary” DLC Free on Epic
“The fifth campaign DLC for Borderlands 2 is now available on the Epic Games Store,” writes Gearbox; “and available for FREE to owners of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection on Epic Games until October 2.”
Gamers can claim their free copy of Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary here. (Note that you must already own Borderlands 2, which is included in Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.) Given that the DLC launched in 2019, years after the rest of the Borderlands 2 DLC, it’s possible that many fans skipped it in favour of waiting for Borderlands 3, which launched a few months later. If you’re one of those people, this may be your chance to get your hands on it for free.

The DLC, which serves as a conclusion to the Borderlands 2 story and an introduction to that of Borderlands 3, focuses on an attempted invasion of Pandora by Dahl. Chemical weapons used by the arms corporation cause rampant mutation among the planet’s flora & fauna, introducing a whole host of new enemies and changing many of the existing regions. Of course, it also features whole new areas to explore and a new top loot tier; Effervescent. The DLC also served to increase the Borderlands 2 level cap.
Once this month-long free offer ends, the final Borderlands 2 DLC will be available to purchase as normal on the Epic Games Store. It is already available on Steam, Xbox One, and PS4. It’s also worth noting that the DLC offers you the opportunity to jump straight into the story, starting the game with a new character at level 30. As such, you won’t need to slog through 30 levels just to access the new content.
