Thus far, Call of Duty fans have only been given a small taste of what’s to come in Black Ops Cold War, via the open beta which ran last month. As the game’s release date approaches, Treyarch has revealed a list of additional game modes which will be available at launch, which weren’t available in the beta.
Upcoming Black Ops Cold War Game Modes
The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War open beta featured a fairly wide selection of core modes, along with a few new additions. Beyond that, Treyarch has hinted at new game modes that will arrive during the game’s first post-launch season. However, until today, they hadn’t officially confirmed what other game modes would be available at launch. Now, we know that at least 7 new modes or mode variants will be available to play.
The most significant additions are two game modes which weren’t available at all during the Beta event; Search & Destroy and Free-for-All. Both modes have been added to the game since the Beta. The other five game modes coming at launch are not new modes per se but rather Hardcore variants. There will initially be five Hardcore modes available to play; Hardcore Domination, Hardcore Free-for-All, Hardcore Kill Confirmed, Hardcore Search & Destroy, and Hardcore Team Deathmatch.
Of course, players can expect a steady release schedule of new Black Ops Cold War game modes to begin relatively quickly after launch. Activision has long thrived on maintaining a cycle of new or returning modes, particularly with Modern Warfare and Warzone. Black Ops Cold War is likely to follow a very similar model. As such, fan-favourite game modes which aren’t currently in the game’s launch roster are likely to arrive at some stage. As such, if your favourite mode isn’t included yet, that certainly doesn’t mean it won’t ever be available. Quite the opposite, in fact.
