According to a new leak, which has already been cooroborated by several reputable outlets, the new Call of Duty coming later in 2020 will be entitled Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The title appears to confirm some previous leaks regarding the game’s setting, although it also seems as though there may be more to the game than originally believed.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Title Leaked
A well-known Call of Duty leaker who goes by Okami posted a mock-up of the upcoming 2020 title’s cover online yesterday. While the cover is certainly not official, the title reportedly is. Eurogamer, among other sites, have stated that their own sources back up the leak. This leak seems to confirm once and for all that the 2020 Call of Duty is indeed an instalment in the Black Ops series. Older rumours had suggested that the 2020 release would be a ‘soft reboot’ of Black Ops; in the same way as 2019’s Modern Warfare was for that series. However, other, more recent rumours had seemed to dispel a possible Black Ops connection.
Interestingly, the title is not ‘Call of Duty: Vietnam‘; a title which had previously circulated on social media. Noted industry journalist Jason Schreier stated on Twitter last month that he had heard the Vietnam title; “thrown around a couple of times”. However, that’s not to say that he was incorrect. Call of Duty: Vietnam could very well be the game’s internal codename. Alternatively, it could be a draft title which was later replaced with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
Until such time as Activision confirms the game’s existence officially, fans are unlikely to get many details about Black Ops Cold War. However, it’s worth noting that more than a few past leaks have pointed to a Vietnam setting. As the Cold War overlaps with the Vietnam War, it’s possible that Vietnam will still be the game’s primary setting. However, entitling the game ‘Cold War’ does hint at a much larger scope for the upcoming release. For now, fans will have to wait and see. However, now that the game’s title has seemingly been leaked, Activision may choose to officially announce the game a bit earlier than planned. After all, they may wish to get ahead of any other possible leaks.
