Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout is Treyarch’s big mystery when it comes to the upcoming flagship title. The new battle royale mode will feature iconic Call of Duty locations, characters, weapons and more, however, there’s one key information segment that we miss. Its player count. According to a new leak, the mode will be a 100 player experience, much like its competitors.
According to the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout listing from GAME retailer, players will drop into a match “vs 99-other players”. The information piece is well hidden down below the listing, along with descriptions of multiplayer and zombies modes. It reads:
Blackout
Battle Royale is coming to Call of Duty. Spawn into Blackout as its you vs 99-other players in the largest Call of Duty map to be made yet. Do you have what it takes to survive?
This changes things a lot after the previous rumor that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout will feature only 60 players. Treyarch has been experimenting with the player count for a long time, even resizing the map until it feels logical and practical.
100 Players is a standard for battle royale titles. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Fortnite and H1Z1 all feature the same player count, which seems to be the soft spot for the best gameplay experience.
It’s no secret that even with the same number of players in a match, all of the aforementioned titles are different. The same goes for other less popular battle royale games running on the same archetype. For Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout to be featuring that many players is a decision of practicality and not mimicking, as many will say after the rumors start going viral.
It won’t be long before we know for sure though, since the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout beta is set to launch on September 10 for PS4 players, moving on to Xbox One and PC later on.
