Last month, EA and Respawn announced the Apex Legends Global Series; a huge esports tournament featuring 22 events all over the world. The series, which also features a prize pool of over $3 million, officially starts on the 25th of January. Ahead of that date, it has now been announced that Lenovo Legion will be the tournament’s exclusive PC and monitor sponsor.
Lenovo Legion: PC Sponsor of the Apex Legends Global Series
The announcement was made yesterday by EA, Respawn, and Lenovo that Lenovo Legion would be the exclusive PC and monitor sponsor of the Apex Legends Global Series. Given that Apex Legends recently won “Best Multiplayer Game” at the Game Awards 2019, it’s easy to see why Lenovo might want to associate their brand with the event. Indeed, it’s also a chance for a huge audience to see their high-end hardware up close.
Lenovo has announced that they will be supplying; “200 high-performance Lenovo Legion desktops and monitors for all Apex Legends Global Series Majors”. More specifically, these desktops will be Lenovo Legion T730s. They will feature 9th Gen Intel Core i7 overclocked 9700K processors and supercharged NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super GPUs. It’s no surprise to see that the NVIDIA RTX 2070 will be used, given NVIDIA’s longstanding partnership with EA; the company used Battlefield 5 for several of their ray tracing tech demos, among other things. They’ve also often provided graphics cards as prizes in Battlefield video competitions.
As far as monitors are concerned, Lenovo will be providing their Lenovo Legion Y25 Monitors. According to the company, their hardware should; “deliver lightning-fast 144Hz refresh rates for near-instant responses in the heat of battle, as well as bring out sharp images and details during gameplay”. In addition to the 200 desktops, Lenovo will also be providing Lenovo Legion laptops for use at the caster’s desks. Although the tournament is due to start on the 25th of January, this high-end hardware won’t make its debut until the 13th of March; the start date of the first of the series’ Majors, which will be taking place in Arlington, Texas.
