Earlier today, Respawn announced that Apex Legends will, at last, be getting a Duos mode, although it will only be available for a limited time. The mode’s addition appears to be taking over from the current Fight or Fright event, which ends the same day that Duos will become available; the 5th of November. It’s not currently known, however, how long the Apex Legends Duos mode will be available.
The New Apex Legends Duos Mode
Prior to the launch of Apex Legends Season 3, Respawn made a Solos mode available in Apex Legends, also for a limited time; nominally to gauge how players responded to the addition. This new addition of Apex Legends Duos appears to be following the same model. Tomorrow, the 5th of November, marks the end of the Fight or Fright Collection Event, the first event of the game’s third season. With that Halloween event over, Duos may give players a reason to keep playing (or indeed, to return).
It’s currently unknown how long the Apex Legends Duos mode will be available to play. While it might seem as though Respawn may be trialling the mode for eventual permanent inclusion, such an eventuality is actually unclear. It’s worth noting parallels with Battlefield 5 here; in the time since its release, DICE has often made popular game modes like Rush available. However, rather than add them permanently, they only make them available for a short while; thus providing players with an incentive to return to the game and keeping a steady cycling of new content. It’s possible that Respawn, whose games are also published by EA, is using a similar model for its Solos and Duos modes.
Whatever the case, with no firm end date announced, players who want to try the Apex Legends Duos mode should do so sooner rather than later. It’s possible that the mode will only be available for a week or two, if it does follow Battlefield 5’s model.
