When it comes to the Madden 19 kicking control, it’s not just the simple press of one button to send the ball through the uprights. Instead, it takes good aim, precision, power, and timing to get the extra point or three points for a field goal. A few buttons are used, but at the right times, as well as another part of your controller. There are other considerations too. Here’s our kicking guide for how to kick a field goal or extra point in Madden 19.
Madden 19 Kicking: How to kick a field goal or extra point
The first step is you scored a touchdown and need the PAT, or your team is within scoring range and can’t find the end zone. You’ll need to call for the field goal play unless you’re daring enough to go for that TD. Here’s how to kick the ball through those uprights. Refer to the screenshot and directions below to get your field goals and extra points every time.
Once your kicking team is on the field, use the left analog stick on your controller to move the on-screen meter. As you move the stick left or right you’ll see the meter move accordingly with the field goal posts in the distance. If you feel the controller begin to vibrate, it’s letting you know the kick won’t be good. Make sure it’s lined up between the uprights. Pull down on the Left analog stick to hold.
Next, press the X button (PS4) or A (Xbox One) once. Watch the curved on-screen meter (near your kicker and holder). You’ll need to hit the X/A near the top of that meter for the kick’s power. As the indicator starts to fall back down towards the bottom, press X/A again once it’s in between the darker area at the bottom. You should see corresponding Xs on that meter to help you out. If you do everything right, the ball is snapped and you’ll kick it high, far, and through the uprights in the distance.
Madden 19 Kicking tips to succeed
At times, the wind conditions affect the aim of your meter towards the uprights. So keep that in mind and adjust the left analog stick appropriately to make sure the ball will go through. Also, at times you may need to adjust the stick by pressing up to make sure you get a kick from farther out. Practice will be what it takes to succeed.
You can go into the Skills Practice Mode for Special Teams and specifically practice field goals. However, having this skill down in the game is a major part of not only making sure you get three points, but also those crucial extra points after touchdowns.
As you may have guessed, a lot of this applies to kicking the ball in kickoffs or punt situations. Those may involve more strategy on your part for ideal ball placement on the field.
