The beauty of the Madden 19 game is the ability to run simulations ahead of big games including this weekend’s AFC and NFC Championship matchups. In the NFC, the LA Rams battle the New Orleans Saints. In the AFC, the New England Patriots visit the Kansas City Chiefs. We ran our Madden 19 NFL Playoffs simulation mode once again to see who will emerge from these two games and head to the Super Bowl!
Madden 19 NFL Playoffs Simulation: Rams vs. Saints (3:05 p.m. ET, FOX)
The NFC Championship Game features two Madden 19 Team of the Year offensive stars: Drew Brees and Todd Gurley. No. 1 seed New Orleans is favored as they host the Rams on Sunday afternoon. However, being a favorite in the playoffs isn’t always meaningful. Also, sometimes the Madden 19 simulation results are shocking, especially for fans of the losing teams.
In this game’s first half, we kid you not, but Saints quarterback Drew Brees was ice cold in terms of getting his team to the endzone. The potential NFL MVP was picked off several times in the opening half, including his team’s first drive. Meanwhile, Jared Goff, Todd Gurley, and the Rams took advantage of their possessions.
After a Nickell Robey-Coleman interception, Goff orchestrated a touchdown-scoring drive to make it 7-0 early. Another interception on a Saints’ drive courtesy of Aqib Talib and a Goff drive made it 14-0.
It didn’t end there, as Los Angeles tacked on two more touchdowns both thanks to short passing plays from Goff in the red zone. Brees, Alvin Kamara, and New Orleans were unable to come up with any end zone scores. They settled for a field goal before the half and it was 28-3.
New Orleans was able to shut out their opponents in the third quarter, but only adding a Wil Lutz field goal made it 28-6. That meant heading into the final quarter, Brees would need to have three touchdown drives and at least one would need a two-point conversion.
They came up with just two touchdowns in that final quarter. Unfortunately, so did the Rams, one of which was a huge 34-yard rushing TD via Todd Gurley. Once the game ended, it was a Rams’ win, 42-20.
Goff ended up with an impressive 194 yards passing and five TDs thrown on 23-of-34 completions. Brees had a whopping 327 yards and two touchdowns on 29-for-47 passing but also was picked off five times. That certainly hurt the Saints. Brandin Cooks and Tyler Higbee each had two TD receptions. Gurley also came up with a big game on the ground with 122 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.
Madden 19 NFL Playoffs Simulation: Patriots vs. Chiefs (6:40 p.m. ET, CBS)
In the second game, it’s the anticipated AFC Championship with Tom Brady and the Patriots taking on Madden star Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. This will be a hot rematch as the two teams met during the regular season in a close game. It went the way of the Patriots, 43-40. That was on New England’s home turf, though.
We’ve got snowy conditions in Kansas City for this one. Both teams are familiar with the winter weather, but it makes for a tight contest in the first quarter. The Chiefs are able to get a decent drive down the field, but can’t find the end zone and settle for a Butker field goal, making it 3-0.
Tom Brady leads his crew down the field in the second quarter but also is unable to get the six points. New England ties the game with a Gostowski field goal, 3-3. After forcing the Chiefs to punt, the Patriots are able to finally orchestrate a touchdown drive towards halftime. Brady finds James White on a 14-yard TD reception and it’s 10-3 at the half.
The second half gets interesting as New England gets to the end zone again in the third quarter. This time Brady finds Chris Hogan. After the extra point, it’s 17-3 visitors. Mahomes and the Chiefs are able to finally get a touchdown of their own, though. Mahomes’ drive ends up with a 10-yard strike to Kelce in the endzone. It’s 17-10 as we head to the fourth.
New England tacks on another Gostowski field goal. Kansas City is able to score another TD, though, and we’re at 20-17. The Chiefs manage to hold the Pats away from the red zone and get the ball back. Mahomes has under two minutes to work. Despite leading his group down towards the end zone, it ends up a scoreless drive. The Pats’ defense holds on and it’s a 20-7 Patriots win.
The final Madden 19 simulation stats reveal Brady with 29-of-40 completions which results in 334 yards, two touchdowns, and the win. Mahomes comes up with a 27-for-44 game with 344 yards and two touchdowns but in the losing effort.
Neither team gets much going on the ground. As far as receivers go, Edelman ends up with 85 yards on eight receptions for New England, while Watkins tallies 96 yards on eight catches.
If these Madden 19 simulation results hold up, we’re looking at the New England Patriots vs. Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII!
