It’s been quite a past year for the Kansas City Chiefs’ young quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He nearly led his squad to the Super Bowl and ended up taking home the league’s Most Valuable Player award. His past season of work ultimately resulted in another accolade as he was named the official Madden 20 cover athlete. On Wednesday night, Patrick Mahomes was also amongst the 2019 ESPYS winners for several different categories.
Madden 20 cover athlete wins Best NFL Player
While Patrick Mahomes wasn’t amongst the award winners on stage during the televised show, it was learned that he was amongst early ESPYS winners. The Madden 20 cover star received the award for Best NFL Player based on his 2018-19 season of work. He beat out other nominees including the New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees as well as the Los Angeles Rams’ Todd Gurley and DPOY Aaron Donald.
Madden NFL 20 Twitter posted a congratulatory message for the upcoming cover athlete of the new football sim game.
The interesting part of Madden NFL 20’s post is where they show an image of Patrick Mahomes with “Best Madden 20 QB” underneath. Just recently, they started to unveil the four members of the upcoming 99 Club for the game. So far, there are two defensive players, Bobby Wagner and Aaron Donald, in that exclusive club. Could this be a hint that Patrick Mahomes is one of the next members revealed?
Mahomes took the stage for another ESPYS award later on during the televised show. The game involving his Chiefs and the Rams from this past season took home the trophy for Best Game of the Year. It was an instant classic, but unfortunately, Mahomes’ Chiefs lost in the thriller.
Mahomes is currently preparing for the upcoming NFL season and hoping to bring the Chiefs to the Super Bowl this time. He’ll be front and center on the official Madden 20 game cover when copies start arriving for fans. Those who pre-ordered certain editions will get the game three days earlier than it’s August 2, 2019 release date. See more details about the Madden 20 pre-orders here.
