While gamers are enjoying virtual football on Madden 19, there is exciting news that a brand new cover is on the way. However, that will be for the next edition of the popular game. One football star will be the Madden 20 cover athlete but who will get that honor? Gamers will find out officially on Thursday (Apr. 25) just before the official NFL Draft 2019’s first round starts.
Madden 20 cover athlete teased on Twitter
As gamers know, the Madden 19 cover athlete is Antonio Brown. At the time of that cover, he was a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers and was for most of their season. He’s also featured in the game’s start-up introduction video in a montage of footage. Now, the wide receiver will call the Raiders his team after a big offseason move. That leaves the door open for a new cover athlete, and a guy who still plays for the Steelers believes he should get it.
Steelers star JuJu Smith-Schuster tweeted out a “mock cover” with himself as the featured Madden 20 athlete. Check out his rendition below.
Of course, it’s unknown if this will be the official cover, but smart money says it’s not the case. A tweeted video shows Schuster-Smith reacting to the actual cover. His reactions seem to indicate another star player got the front cover for Madden 20.
How to watch the Madden 20 cover reveal
EA Sports Madden and NFL have sent out a number of tweets involving the official reveal, though. It’s set to take place ahead of Thursday night’s 2019 NFL Draft from Nashville, Tennessee. The cover reveal will take place at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time on ABC and ESPN during College Gameday. Cable and satellite viewers can also watch live streaming on their device of choice using WatchESPN app or channel. Viewers in select U.S. cities can also watch online using the ABC Live website or app.
So who will get the Madden 20 cover? In another teaser video, defensive star Aaron Donald of the Los Angeles Rams is seen reacting to the cover. Donald mentions, “He deserved it” as he takes in the Madden 20 cover athlete image.
As for our Madden 20 predictions, one athlete who could be the cover star may be reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes. The Kansas City Chiefs star achieved plenty of milestones last season and seems on the cusp of joining other elite quarterbacks if he keeps it up. That said, Madden might give the nod to Tom Brady after his sixth championship this past postseason.
Could Madden choose one of the upcoming NFL Draft rookies for the cover? So far, Kyler Murray is the popular quarterback being named as a future star, but his team won’t be known until the 2019 NFL Draft starts. It’d be unlikely that EA puts him on the cover without a team, but one never knows. Even so, with the new Madden 19 draft event going on, expect Kyler to be added to the current game tonight for his respective squad.
