So about that Madden curse. On Sunday, the reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes seemingly shook that off in the postseason, as he put in another terrific performance. With his team’s victory in the AFC Championship Game, it means the Madden 20 cover star is heading to his first Super Bowl. Not only are the Chiefs and their fans in celebration mode, but so is the game that Mahomes has helped sell a few copies of this year.
Madden 20 cover star Patrick Mahomes ends Chiefs’ Super Bowl drought
It’s been a 50-year wait for the Kansas City Chiefs franchise. They previously played in Super Bowl IV and collected their first and only win in team history back in 1970. Now they’re back in 2020 thanks to the Madden 20 cover star.
In the AFC Championship Game against Tennessee, Patrick Mahomes was 23-of-35 for passing with 294 yards and three touchdowns. He also carried the ball eight times for 53 times including a dazzling touchdown run of his own.
EA’s Madden NFL Twitter posted the original video clip they had of Mahomes promoting the Madden 20 QB1 Franchise mode ahead of the game’s 2019 release. In their caption, they reminded fans that he also achieved entry into the Madden 99 Club during the NFL season.
Mahomes due for Ultimate Team upgrade
In the Madden 20 game, Mahomes’ best card right now is the Ghosts of Madden Present. The card was released during the Zero Chill promotion for the 2019 holiday season and carries a 94 overall rating. Current prices are ranging from 266,000 to near 400,000 for auction listings on the PS4.
That’s a fair price for the reigning MVP who possesses a 94 Throw Power, 94 Throw on the Run, 92 Throw Under Pressure, and 90 Throw Accuracy Deep. In addition, Mahomes has Power Up Options as well as Superstar X-Factor abilities including Bazooka. Check out more details for the card at MUTHEAD.
Based on Sunday’s performance, it’s possible Mahomes will get an upgrade soon in Madden Ultimate Team. However, a Super Bowl MVP award would bring gamers who took advantage of an exclusive New Year’s Eve store deal a 99 overall Mahomes for their MUT rosters.
The Madden 20 cover star will now try to lead the Kansas City Chiefs to a huge win in Super Bowl 54. The game will pit Mahomes and the Chiefs against Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers in Miami on Sunday, February 2, 2020.
