With EA Sports, it’s in the game, as the video game company continues to make sure their titles include aspects that simulate real-world sports. With the Madden 20 playbooks, the developers have made a serious effort to incorporate as much of the NFL teams’ real plays as possible. After a recent request from one of the players on the Kansas City Chiefs, they’re now adding one of the Super Bowl champions’ unique plays.
Chiefs use special play in Super Bowl win
This past Sunday, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs achieved a Super Bowl comeback win over the San Francisco 49ers, 31-20. Part of their success in the big game came due to a play known as Jet Chip Wasp. It’s an intricate passing play that came in handy as the Chiefs were in a 20-10 hole during the second half. It’s also not part of the Madden 20 playbooks.
San Francisco would challenge a 2nd down reception made by Tyreek Hill, and that gave Kansas City some time to come up with their next move. As the referees reviewed the play and determined it was an incomplete pass, that was when the Chiefs pulled a special play from their bag of tricks.
On 3rd and 15, they went with the Jet Chip Wasp play and it worked. Hill ended up using his blazing fast speed and the end result was a 44-yard reception from Mahomes. That whole Super Bowl series featuring the Chiefs’ special play was profiled in a Turning Point video by NFL Films.
Madden 20 Playbooks to add Chiefs’ ‘Jet Chip Wasp’ play
With the play going viral this past week, Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill took to Twitter on Thursday. He asked EA’s Madden if they could add in Jet Chip Wasp. Ask and you shall receive, Mr. Hill, as the Madden 20 playbooks will soon include the play!
EA’s Madden NFL 20 replied to Hill’s tweet by showing off a diagram of the “Coming soon” play.
Earlier this season, a Madden 20 playbooks update arrived with a Live Playbooks option. This updates the game to use plays that more closely match teams’ plays from the ongoing season.
Ahead of the game’s official release, a big deal was made about the Philly Special joining the playbooks. That infamous play also helped a team in the Super Bowl as Nick Foles became a receiver. He then caught a touchdown pass for the Philadelphia Eagles during their championship win.
With the Chiefs’ Jet Chip Wasp play, gamers are already imagining the possibilities. This one could work wonders as a fast receiver burns the opposing defense for a big first down or TD!
