Madden 20 Player Ratings: Matthew Stafford Rises, Ezekiel Elliott Declines

The latest Madden 20 player ratings have arrived with players receiving upgrades or downgrades based on their real game performances. As the NFL is heading into Week 5, a number of high profile players including the Detroit Lions’ Matthew Stafford received boosts. However, several stars including the Dallas Cowboys’ Ezekiel Elliott saw their ratings decline.

Stafford rises up in Madden 20 player ratings

While the Madden 20 cover star and new 99 OVR Patrick Mahomes is amongst the league leaders in total passing yards, Matthew Stafford also finds himself in the top 10 QBs. Stafford has 88 completions on 141 attempts for 1,122 yards and nine touchdowns thrown, helping the Lions succeed early on this season.

He also has just two interceptions so far after four weeks and threw three touchdowns and 291 yards against the Chiefs. His performance nearly helped Detroit defeat Mahomes’ Chiefs. Due to all of that, his Madden 20 player ratings have moved up two points, pushing him to an 81 overall. In particular, Stafford’s awareness received a four-point boost at the EA Madden ratings Hub.

One of Stafford’s favorite targets has been wide receiver, Kenny Golladay. He also received a two-point boost on the ratings hub, bringing him up to an 85 OVR. EA mentioned that he has four touchdowns so far through the first four weeks of the Lions schedule. Golladay’s Jumping went up four points and Catch in Traffic went up by three points for Week 5.

Elliott, OBJ among players on the decline

A number of star players slipped a bit for the Week 5 Madden player ratings. In particular, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott dropped by a point to a 93 OVR, with his Awareness falling by two points. EA cited that he struggled to find his ground game against the New Orleans Saints. The Cowboys fell 12-10 in that game and the ratings adjustors felt it necessary to downgrade the second-highest rated RB in the game.

They also dropped Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. by a point for Week 5 ratings. As EA mentioned, OBJ has just one good performance so far this season. That came in Week 2 when the Browns defeated the New York Jets and he had 161 yards with a TD. He had just two receptions for 20 yards against the Ravens in a high-scoring Browns game.

So now OBJ drops by a point to 96 OVR. The good news is he’s right where he started at launch and still amongst the top three receivers in the league. However, Michael Thomas, Keenan Allen, and Tyreek Hill are gaining on him.

One other player of note with a significant drop is Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins. As Cousins has just three TDs through four games, it’s been a lackluster first quarter of the season for him. His Awareness is down by three points in particular and he’s now down two points to a 78 OVR. So Stafford has moved ahead of Cousins as the NFC North battle rages on this season.
