When Madden 20 QB ratings dropped last week, a lot of debates quickly emerged about which quarterbacks were insulted. Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady were dropped from the Madden 99 Club, despite each having cases as the best veteran QB in the game. However, Madden 20 made it clear that their cover athlete Patrick Mahomes is heading into the season as the best of the best. He leads the top 20 quarterbacks and is the closest to that four-man club.
Patrick Mahomes sits at top of Madden 20 QB ratings
With his 97 OVR, there’s no question that Madden’s crew decided Patrick Mahomes’ previous season of work was enough to rank him at the top. Mahomes boasts a 97 rating for both his Throw Under Pressure and Throw On the Run attributes. He also brings a 96 Throw Power to the field and will have the best tight end in the game to throw to with Travis Kelce. All that said, the Kansas City Chiefs’ leader will need to keep on impressing people in the coming season if he wants to keep that rating and head higher.
Right below Patrick Mahomes is the quarterback many consider the G.O.A.T. in the NFL, Tom Brady (96). He’s coming off yet another Super Bowl victory with the New England Patriots. He still seems to defy Father Time and could play several more seasons and win several more rings.
However, he’s also heading into another season in which he’s another year closer to his pending retirement. With Rob Gronkowski retired, will he still showcase his amazing QB abilities? Brady has 99 Throw Accuracy Short, Play Action, and Awareness, as well as 98 for Throw Accuracy Mid.
Rounding out the top five are Phillip Rivers (Chargers, 94), Andrew Luck (Colts, 92) and Drew Brees (Saints, 92). Of those three players, Madden 20 lists Luck’s 83 Speed as “highest among top 5 QBs.”
All of the top five quarterbacks have a Superstar X-Factor Zone Ability. Mahomes will have the much talked about Bazooka throwing ability. Brady and Luck have “Pro Reads,” while Rivers and Brees have “Fearless.”
Who else is in the top 20 quarterbacks?
Only two other quarterbacks received a 90 or better for the Madden 20 QB ratings. They are the Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson (91) and Green Bay Packers’ Aaron Rodgers (90). A lot of the “insult” talk with regards to the quarterbacks came in for Rodgers, as he was in last year’s 99 Club at launch.
Just below him are the Falcons’ Matt Ryan and Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger (85). Cam Newton rounds out the top 10 with an 84, followed by 83 OVRs Jared Goff (Rams) and Baker Mayfield (Browns). All eyes will be on last year’s No. 1 pick to see how he performs in the coming season.
Speaking of No. 1 picks, Kyler Murray didn’t make the top 20, and that’s understandable as he’ll need to prove himself. The Cardinals’ rookie has a 73 overall rating, which is a point better than the New York Giants’ Eli Manning.
By the way, the Madden 20 listing allows gamers to see how quarterbacks rate the best at certain attributes. Lamar Jackson boasts the best Speed at 94 followed by Kyler Murray’s 91. Roethlisberger has the best Strength (82) followed by Cam Newton (81). Somehow, Josh Allen’s 99 is the best Throw Power, followed by Mahomes’ 96.
There are likely to be gripes from fanbases out there heading into the season, such as Mitch Trubisky’s 75 OVR for the Chicago Bears. There’s also the idea that the Philadelphia Eagles top the Madden 20 team ratings yet their quarterback, Carson Wentz, rates at just 82 OVR. Both those guys can prove themselves once they get on the field in a few months from now.
Until then, gamers will be seeing how they perform in the newest version of the football simulation title for PS4, Xbox One, and Windows PCs. EA Sports’ Madden 20 title arrives on August 2, 2019, with pre-orders arriving three days earlier. EA Access and Origin Access Premier members can get the game even earlier on July 25th.
