Welcome to the 99 Club, Drew Brees, at least temporarily. The New Orleans Saint quarterback is officially one of the elite as his Saints are sitting in first place in the NFC South right now with an 11-3 record. With Brees back from injury, New Orleans has continued to look impressive as a potential top seed in the NFC Playoffs. Due to Brees’ recent record-breaking performance this past week, the Madden 20 ratings adjustors gave him and gamers a nice gift out of respect.
Madden 20 ratings adjustors make Brees a temporary 99
During the third quarter of this past Monday’s Colts vs. Saints game, Drew Brees threw his 540th career pass, breaking Peyton Manning’s all-time record. As a result of the latest feat, EA Sports’ Madden 20 moved Brees up to 99 overall in terms of his ratings. It’s a temporary move, and mostly a nod to his stellar career, rather than any indication that he’ll be in the Madden 99 Club.
Brees was a 93 overall before his record-breaking performance meaning he got a six-point boost. In particular, his Awareness rating went from 97 to 99. In terms of Madden 20 ratings, Brees has never been lower than a 92 in the game and should remain at least a 93 OVR moving into the playoffs.
Brees’ teammate could join 99 Club next
While Brees is only in the group of players temporarily, one of his New Orleans Saints’ teammates is on “99 Club Watch” based on a recent video clip tweet from EA Madden.
It’s none other than wide receiver Michael Thomas who currently leads the league in terms of receiving with 1,552 yards. Thomas has compiled those yards along with eight touchdowns this season from 133 receptions. He’s averaging 11.7 yards per reception as well, according to ESPN stats.
Thomas is currently a 98 overall in the game along with Patriots cornerback Stephen Gilmore. It’s an impressive rise for Thomas who started out in the first Madden 20 ratings as a 95 OVR this year.
In terms of the Madden 99 Club, this year’s game arrived with just four players who were members. They were defensive stars Aaron Donald, Khalil Mack, and Bobby Wagner, as well as wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
Things have changed over the course of the season, though, as Mack and Wagner have both dropped slightly to 98 OVRs. Meanwhile, two other players entered the 99 Club with cover star Patrick Mahomes and most recently, Carolina Panthers halfback Christian McCaffrey becoming members.
So right now it’s Hopkins, Donald, Mahomes, McCaffrey, and a temporary Brees, but Michael Thomas is right on the cusp. Will he get there with two games to go in the 2019-20 NFL season?
