On Thursday night, the official Madden 20 cover was revealed to the masses during ESPN’s College Gameday. Just over an hour before the 2019 NFL Draft, they unveiled the new cover featuring Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The reigning NFL MVP graces the new game’s cover which arrives in just over three months from now. Here are more details about the upcoming Madden 20 release date, some of the features, and how to pre-order.
Madden 20 features include new college QB campaign
We now know that Patrick Mahomes is the Madden 20 cover athlete. He’ll follow Antonio Brown, Tom Brady, and Rob Gronkowski in the line of star NFL players to get that honor. Mahomes is seen flexing on the tweet below with EA Sports’ Madden NFL praising him as the “face of the franchise.”
Speaking of franchises, that’s one of the cool new features coming to Madden 20. It’s called “Face of the Franchise: QB1 Career Campaign.” In that single-player campaign, gamers get to create a quarterback based on their specifications. That QB can play for one of 10 different colleges including the national champion Clemson Tigers.
You’ll guide your quarterback through the College Football Playoff and then try to impress scouts at the Combine. After getting drafted into the league, it’s up to you to make your mark and play in the Pro Bowl, among other milestones.
There will also be something built into Madden 20 involving “Superstar X-Factor players.” This will give specific NFL superstars “unique abilities” that you can bring out on the field and change the game with. It’s unknown which players will have this, but one has to think cover athlete Mahomes, Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, and young running back Saquon Barkley might be a few of them.
There will also be new daily Ultimate Team missions. The EA website indicates these will make it “easier and faster than ever to know what you need to do to craft the team you’ve always dreamed about.” More details are likely to come as far as what these will involve, but it certainly sounds intriguing.
Madden 20 release date, pre-order details
So how do you pre-order the new Madden 20 game? A special teaser video arrived with the new cover announcement. During that teaser video, they not only showed off Patrick Mahomes as the cover athlete but also revealed the official Madden 20 release date. That date will be Friday, August 2, 2019, to get your hands on the latest installment of the Madden NFL franchise.
However, there is the option to pre-order the “Ultimate Superstar Edition” of the game. Doing that can get the game into gamers’ hands even earlier. According to the Madden teaser video (below) and an ad inside the current Madden game, gamers can order that edition for 10 percent off. It will allow for getting the game three days prior to the official release date.
Keep in mind there are three different editions of the game. Madden NFL 20: Superstar Edition is $79.99 at Microsoft Store or $71.99 with EA Access membership. Madden NFL 20: Ultimate Superstar Edition is $99.99 at Microsoft Store or $89.99 with EA Access membership. The standard edition of the game is $59.99 or $53.99 with the EA Access.
