Recent retirement news involving Carolina Panthers defensive star Luke Kuechly shook up the sports world, as the Pro Bowler decided to call it quits after the 2019 NFL season. Tight end Antonio Gates didn’t participate in the latest season but was part of the Chargers in 2018. He officially announced his retirement this past week as well. In honor of both of these all-time greats, there are new Madden 20 Tribute cards available for both players.
New Madden 20 Tribute cards for Luke Kuechly & Antonio Gates
Antonio Gates announced his retirement on January 14 after playing from 2003 through 2018 for the Chargers. He holds the NFL record for most touchdowns by a tight end with 116 and ranks sixth amongst all-time players in career touchdowns. He’s also an eight-time NFL Pro Bowl selection and likely a future Hall of Fame.
In honor of his retirement, his Madden 20 Tribute card brings a 97 overall rating, making him one of the best tight ends available in the game now. The item also features 97 Catching, 96 Catch in Traffic, 94 Spectacular Catch, and 90 Short Route Run. There’s an 87 Speed but with Power Up possibilities, MUT gamers can give him a boost.
Luke Kuechly is the second of the all-time greats and multiple-time Pro Bowlers to call it quits in the past week. Kuechly posted a video announcing his retirement on the Carolina Panthers’ social media. His announcement also arrived on January 14, the same day as Gates decided to hang up his cleats.
Kuechly played for the Panthers from 2012 through 2019 and racked up plenty of impressive stats. In just his second season, he won the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award and went on to become a seven-time Pro Bowl selection including one for this season.
His new 97 OVR Madden 20 Tribute card brings plenty of great attributes. They include a stellar 98 Play Recognition, 96 Tackle, 94 Hit Power, 92 Acceleration, and 89 Speed. Just as with Gates’ card, Kuechly also has those Power Up possibilities.
Where to get the new Kuechly and Gates items
The Madden 20 Tribute cards are a limited-time availability deal when it comes to them being inside packs. They’ll be available until Monday, January 20 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time according to MUTHEAD’s report. There are no specific Tribute packs, though.
The other option to get these players is by spending quite a bit of Madden Coins at the Auctions Browser. The Antonio Gates card has current listings over one million coins as of this report. Meanwhile, Luke Kuechly’s item is selling in the 800,000-plus Coins range on PS4, as of this report.
The two players are the latest notable stars of the league to announce the retirement. During the NFL preseason, star quarterback Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts also announced his retirement and received a special Madden M20 Tribute card.
