Ahead of the Madden 20 ratings for all players, just one offensive player was featured in an early 99 Club reveal. The Houston Texans’ DeAndre Hopkins drew praise from his fans, and shock from fans of other teams or players. In particular, there were those fans who felt other offensive stars were snubbed including some of the game’s top quarterbacks. In the coming season, Hopkins will have to prove himself on a weekly basis. Many of the other receivers will be looking to improve their Madden 20 WR rating. That includes those near a 99, and those in the top 20 wide receivers.
DeAndre Hopkins considered best in NFL
While Hopkins and Jones will continue their careers with the Texans and Atlanta Falcons, respectively, two guys just below them are on new journeys. Madden 19 cover star Antonio Brown will now catch his passes for Oakland. Meanwhile, Odell Beckham Jr. will be the recipient of strikes thrown courtesy of the Cleveland Browns’ Baker Mayfield.
Brown and Jones are the closest wide receivers to the Madden 99 Club as they each boast 98 OVRs for the Madden 20 WR ratings. AB was actually part of the exclusive seven-member 99 Club heading into last year’s release. Can he regain that status now that’s playing on the West coast with a new team?
The New Orleans Saints’ Michael Thomas is ranked at the No. 5 spot, despite Madden 20’s question mark above. The 6-foot-3 star tallied 1,405 yards and nine touchdowns on his 125 catches last season from Drew Brees. A 95 OVR has him in striking distance of the players ahead of him as well as the 99 Club, which would be an impressive career feat.
Top 20 for Madden 20 WR ratings
A total of 11 guys hold a 90-or-better in the Madden 20 WR ratings. Cincinnati’s A.J. Green boasts a 90 OVR as the lowest score. Just ahead of him are Mike Evans and T.Y. Hilton with 91s.
Among the top 10 wide receivers, the Minnesota Vikings have plenty to look forward to heading towards this season. Adam Thielen (94) and Stefan Briggs (93) are both right there with the best in the league. A total of 11 players hold a 90 OVR or better heading into Madden 20 WR ratings. Cincinnati’s A.J. Green boasts a 90 OVR as the lowest score. Just ahead of him with 91s are Tampa Bay’s Mike Evans and Indianapolis receiver T.Y. Hilton.
Last year’s Super Bowl runner-up team, the Los Angeles Rams, has two wide receivers near the bottom of the top 20 with Brandin Cooks and Robert Woods. That should be an interesting competition between these two as both hold 87s in the Madden 20 WR ratings.
Which players just missed out on getting into that top 20? They include the Detroit Lions’ Marvin Jones Jr. and Chicago Bears’ Allen Robinson each have an 86 OVR. The Giants’ new receiver Golden Tate III and Eagles star DeSean Jackson are 85. Future Hall of Fame Larry Fitzgerald of the Cardinals is one of four players with an 84. Cooper Kupp is also there, giving the Rams arguably a third player in the Top 25.
As most fans already know, these ratings are a bunch of fun to debate and dissect until the NFL season starts. Then the real evidence will start to take shape as players put on stellar or poor performances which will see their ratings adjust. Will DeAndre Hopkins continue to show excellence or fall from that spot? Will AB, OBJ, or another receiver get into the club? See more details about Madden 20’s release here.
