One of the Madden 21 defense adjustments that can be helpful against scrambling quarterbacks is QB spy. It assigns one of your defensive players as the spy to keep an eye on the quarterback. So if you’re up against someone using Michael Vick, Lamar Jackson, or Patrick Mahomes, it’s good to know how to QB spy in Madden 21.
How to QB spy in Madden 21 defense adjustments
We’ve looked at a number of the defensive controls in Madden 21, such as how to assign man-to-man or doubleteam a receiver. We’ve also covered how to shift your defensive line or linebackers for their coverage. Now we’ll look at how to use one of your defenders as a QB spy which is helpful to prevent a QB from scrambling for a huge gain.
As mentioned, this adjustment assigns one specific defender to guard the quarterback and stick with them on defense. Here’s how to set it up:
Once your defense is lined up, use the Circle button on the PS4 controller or B on Xbox One to select the defender you want to use as your QB spy. (Tip: The best choice is usually one of your linebackers who will have the athletic ability to catch the quarterback.)
Press the X button on the PS4 controller or A button on the Xbox One controller. This calls up an options pop-up menu in the lower corner of your screen (see below).
Press the Right Stick to the left side. This selects QB spy for your defender.
When done correctly, you’ll see the defender who is QB spy stick around and basically keep an eye on what the quarterback does. If the QB slides to one side, your QB spy should also shift over to stay with them.
If the QB decides to scramble, you’ll see that your QB spy is ready and goes right after them. It may help get a huge tackle like in the video below.
